"It Was Twenty Years Ago Today"
Stu does these "grid" portraits and lots of other kinds of photography, including magnificent nature photographs. Right now he is part of a show at the Photographic Image Gallery in Portland OR (through October 29, 2005).
He doesn't have his own web site yet, but he will soon, and I'll update this image to include that URL as soon as I know it.
Stu lives in Portland, Oregon. He came to a house concert I played there in April of 2004, and asked if I would be interested in being the subject of a portrait.
The work was done in February, 2005, at my home studio in Oakland and at KPFA in Berkeley. The KPFA portion was shot during my annual 16-hour fund-raising marathon on February 19 - the 20th anniversary (plus a day) of my first radio appearance. Accordingly, Stu titled the image "It was Twenty Years Ago Today."
The woman in the photo is my wife, Rita. The cat is Groucho. Stu himself appears in the upper left image, and twice in the KPFA half of the grid.
