A life free from violence
In July 2014 the UK will host the first Girl Summit, aimed at mobilising domestic and international efforts to end female genital mutilation (FGM) and child, early and forced marriage (CEFM) within a generation.
Girls and women like Taketu (pictured) have the right to live free from violence and discrimination and achieve their potential, but millions are being prevented from doing so by harmful practices such as FGM and CEFM.
In partnership with the Government of Ethiopia, DFID-funded Finote Hiwot is helping at least 37,500 adolescent girls, and indirectly many more, to avoid child marriage in Ethiopia.
