Safe space session

The girls pictured here are taking part in a DFID-funded safe space session in Zambia. During these weekly sessions they learn about health and financial issues as well as how and why to avoid early marriage.

In total, early and forced marriage affects about 14 million girls every year.

On 22 July 2014 the UK will host the first Girl Summit, aimed at mobilising domestic and international efforts to end female genital mutilation and child, early and forced marriage within a generation.
