Marshall Islands

The small size and physical isolation of the Marshall Islands pose a number of development challenges. These include very limited land mass on most atolls, population growth leading to overcrowding, limited progress with economic reforms and high costs of service delivery to dispersed populations. Providing reliable electricity across the country is also challenging and expensive, but crucial for the country’s future. With AusAID’s support, the Marshalls Energy Company is installing prepay metres for households on Majuro to assist customers in budgeting their electricity usage.
