Milwaukee FD Rescue 3, Milwaukee, WI
Milwaukee Fire Department Rescue 3, a 2006 Pierce Lance Heavy Rescue assigned to the Dive Rescue Team.
At approximately 10:00 a.m. 09 January 2009 the Milwaukee Fire Department received a call for an individual down on the ice on the Milwaukee River just below the Wisconsin Avenue bridge. A dive rescue response was dispatched consisting of Engines 2 and 3, Trucks 1 and 2, MED 6 (Ambulance) and Rescue 3 (the dive rescue squad cross-staffed by Engine 3). Upon arrival, a special call was requested for a H.U.R.T. response (Heavy Urban Rescue Team). This brought Rescue 1, Rescue 4 and Truck 11 (which cross-staffs Rescues 1 and 4). The victim had apparently attempted taking his own life by jumping off the bridge, but suffered only a broken arm and was transported to the hospital by MED 6.
