Abandoned Tiger Stadium - Detroit ( ALL RIGHTS RESERVED )

Taken in February 2008, this is the month ( in theory ) that demolition is due to start on the historic stadium. The original Dark Blue letters ( along with every sign, and every seat that had a "D" logo on it ) were removed and sold in an ebay-type auction.

There has been a stadium at this location in Detroit since 1895. Tiger Stadium was built in 1911 ( completed in 1912 ) and opened the same week as Fenway Park in Boston. The Detroit Tigers played here until the year 2000. The Detroit Lions also played here from 1938 through 1974. The Stadium is scheduled for demolition ( despite being named a National Historic Site ) in February of 2008. The Stadium is located in Detroit ( actually a district called Corktown ) , at MIchigan Avenue and Trumbull, right near the also abandoned Michigan Central Train Depot.

I modified this picture slightly ( solarized ) using Photoshop Elements 6.0 .

Cool shot. I went to a game there in 96 or 97, it was great. I hadn't been to an outdoor big league game in years, since the Twins have played indoors since 82.

    Hi Derek,

I am a fan of Sigur Ros and involved with a project called 30daysontheroad.com (www.30daysontheroad.com) where we follow the band virtually throughout their N. America tour.

My team and I would very much appreciate if you could upload a few of your photos of Detroit that I came across on Flickr? These would live in the "Detroit" section of our site. I'm specifically interested in the "Tiger Stadium" photo, and was wondering if we could use that for the main image to represent the Detroit section. Full credits to you of course. You can add links to your site and promote your work!

Check out the site and let me know what you think. I couldn't find another way to get in touch, so hopefully this will find you!

    Thank you so much,

The last time I went to Tiger stadium was game 5 of the 1968 world series. It was the game that turned the tide and they went on to win the series against St. Lewis. The is a great shot of a faded icon.
    Thanks for the memory.
