Abandoned Tiger Stadium - Detroit ( ALL RIGHTS RESERVED )

Taken in February 2008, this is the month ( in theory ) that demolition is due to start on the historic stadium. The original Dark Blue letters ( along with every sign, and every seat that had a "D" logo on it ) were removed and sold in an ebay-type auction.

There has been a stadium at this location in Detroit since 1895. Tiger Stadium was built in 1911 ( completed in 1912 ) and opened the same week as Fenway Park in Boston. The Detroit Tigers played here until the year 2000. The Detroit Lions also played here from 1938 through 1974. The Stadium is scheduled for demolition ( despite being named a National Historic Site ) in February of 2008. The Stadium is located in Detroit ( actually a district called Corktown ) , at MIchigan Avenue and Trumbull, right near the also abandoned Michigan Central Train Depot.

I modified this picture slightly ( solarized ) using Photoshop Elements 6.0 .
