Civic Theater in Farmington ( 1940 ) - a suburb of Detroit

    Prev Next

The Civic Theater, located at 33332 Grand River in the heart of Downtown Farmington - a suburb of Detroit, first opened in 1940. The Art Deco styled theater was designed by Architect Howard Crane, who also designed the Fox Theater. It is currently owned by the City of Farmington. On September 1, 1999, the City of Farmington purchased the Farmington Civic Theatre from the Hohler family, who had operated it for more than 59 years. Outside of closing for a short period of time in 1999 due to renovations to it's balcony, it has been open during it's entire lifetime.

Does it still show movies? If so, do they still have the dollar shows?

It is still open, I don't think they still have the dollar movies but I could be wrong.

I love seeing the photos that you take from all over Michigan, but Detroit in particular. I don't know that I would want to go to some of those areas myself but I do remember them from years ago when Detroit was more robust, if you will. Yep, I remember a lot of the paintings on those old buildings. And some of those old buildings are just crying out to be brought back to life and given a second chance. I actually cried when I was the Hudson building demolished. What a wonderful building that was. Too bad someone with a great imagination couldn't turn it into soemthing grand again.
Thanks for the great walks down memory lane. Keep 'em coming, if you can. And throw in a few photos of your kitty. Very CUTE!!! =^++^=

Wow, our folks dropped us off there in the 60's and we would spend Saturday doing the double feature. Good call.
