Marky the Macaw
Here's Marky the Scarlet Macaw an addition to my Tropical Bird Series.
It is native to humid evergreen forests in the American tropics. Range extends from extreme south-eastern Mexico to Amazonian Peru, Bolivia and Brazil in lowlands. It has suffered from local extinction through habitat destruction and capture for the parrot trade.
They live up to 50 years in captivity, although, a more typical lifespan is 30 to 40 years. They are unusually stubborn at times.
I saw some of these in the wild when I visited Brazil in 2000 and they are absolutely stunning birds that need to be saved!
Scarlet Macaws are famous for being a Pirates best friend :-)
He is one of my favourite birds I've built so far as I think he is pretty accurate to the real deal, apart from the size (he's about half the size of a real one).
