This is a picture of the Ganges shot from Panchganga ghat in Varanasi (Benaras).
Those baskets are keeping candles, I heard that those candles are for people who drowned in the holy waters but I was also told that those baskets are lifted up in order to tell the spirits to welcome the people who recently departed from life.
Reality sometimes jumbles with legends in the oldest living city in the world in order to leave the visitor in golden slumbers...
