Bishop's Cap-Astrophytum capricorne

April 16, 2012

Bishop’s Cap (Astrophytum capricorne)-This diminutive cactus is found in the Chihuahuan Desert of northern Mexico. It globular body is covered with white hairs and the spines are often long and twisted. The flowers are borne at the apex of the stem and are sweet smelling. In our low-desert, Bishop’s Cap prefers some afternoon shade or plant in filtered light areas. Located in the Sybil B. Harrington Cactus Gallery.
