TBird Orange Globemallow with bee-Sphaeralcea ambigua

March 10, 2011

Thunderbird Conservation Park

The drive into the park continues to be a showy display of yellow desert marigold (Baileya multiradiata), pink fairy duster (Calliandra eriophylla), yellow brittlebush (Encelia farinosa), orange globemallow (Sphaeralcea ambigua), and red chuparosa (Justicia californica). Within the park, there are a few more blossoms on the creosote bushes (Larrea tridentata) this week. Blossom hunting this week turned up scampering squirrels and bunnies as well as numerous fiddleneck (Amsinckia sp.) blooms hiding in the shadows of the trees. There is always something interesting to see in the Sonoran desert!
