B-767 Spirit of Delta Transformation
Turning The Spirit of Delta from a functional airplane into a museum exhibition space was a major project. From May to December 2006, Museum staff, volunteers, a few contractors, and a small crew of Delta maintenance employees modified the aircraft by installing household electricity, a climate control system, and gutting the aircraft interior. Special wheel struts and landing gear struts were also installed. In 2008, the Museum received a major award for this project, which is now being used as inspiration for several other aviation museums around the country.
