Harvest Moonrise - Day 2
The second harvest moonrise was even better than the first! The combination of a later moonrise and a clearer day meant that the moon rose into a gorgeous alpenglow. You can see a few of the sun's last rays illuminating Mt. Diablo.
I took this photo from Grizzly Peak in Berkeley. I love how beautiful and wild the east bay hills are just minutes from downtown. On this evening, things got almost a little too wild, though: as Tim and I hiked out along a seldom-used trail to get to this lookout, we heard some low, intense growls coming from a dense bunch of bushes about 10 yards from the trail. We froze in our tracks, wondering if it were smarter to keep moving along the trail, or turn around and go back. We followed the common advice for mountain lion encounters and made noise and waved our arms (and tripod!) around and kept moving down the trail. Luckily we never saw the possible mountain lion, but I did keep looking over my shoulder as I shot the moonrise!
