Stone Stairway, Like A Nautilus Shell
Last fall, my sister and I took a brief trip to Connecticut. On our last day, we visited Fort Trumbull, an old fort built at the time of the Civil War, complete with a grass roof. It wasn't easy for me to climb this staircase, as the stairs were high and uneven.
But the view from the roof, looking out over the Thames River (yes, there's one here, too!) as it flows down toward the ocean, made it more than worthwhile. The wind was intense, but the sun was shining; I loved being up there! Getting down was a bit easier, and that's when I noticed how much the curving staircase looked like a nautilus shell, and made this photo...
