Landing Craft from HMS Ocean on the River Thames, London

A Mk5 LCVP Landing Craft operated by 9 Assault Squadron Royal Marines (9 ASRM) from amphibious assault ship HMS Ocean in London.

Britain's biggest warship, HMS Ocean was at the heart of the Olympics, moored on the Thames in Greenwich for the duration of the Games to ensure this once-in-a-lifetime event was safe for all to enjoy.

More usually, as a helicopter carrier and amphibious assault ship, Ocean is designed to deliver troops to the centre of the action by helicopter or by landing craft – with six helicopter operating spots on the flight deck and the hangar can hold many more aircraft. The ship has its own Royal Marine assault squadron, 9ASRM, and carries four Mk5 landing craft vehicle and personnel (LCVP).
