RMS Titanic - Grand Staircase in LEGO

Newer Older

With the approach on April 14th, 2012, the 100 anniversary of that fateful meeting between the RMS "Titanic" and the iceberg, I considered a various ways of memorializing the event in LEGO.

Some LEGO vignettes are built on a standard 8x8 stud base.... but when dealing with the RMS "Titanic" perhaps even vignettes should be outsized. This creation shows the A and B deck landings of the forward 1st class grand staircase in a scale that turned out to be slightly larger than minifig scale. I added a 1x2 brick to the male minifig to make up for it. This is still a work in progress. I have not figured out how to put statues of "Honor and Glory Crowning Time" around the clock above the upper staircase landing. The curving staircase banisters are as of yet an unsolved problem as well. The boat deck level has not been added yet - it would rest on the pillars seen on the tiled A Deck.

If this was part of a complete LEGO model of the RMS "Titanic" in this scale, that model would be about 18 feet long and 2 feet wide.
