Pushing Off The Ice

    Newer Older

Woo-hoo, open water and balmy weather make for ideal conditions for our first paddle of the year! I'll be posting more of our 'Icebreaker Paddle' so stay tuned for some interesting views of St. Lawrence River ice!

@Jean-Yves, this is my first use of the G10 in the canoe. I brought it along in a dry bag, didn't think it was risky because the conditions were ok (but did hit some rough water in the channel of the St. Lawrence where there was a lot of chop). Canon makes a waterproof case that allows underwater photography specifically for the G10.

@Liz, didn't know there was a Bath near Kingston, though I've been to Bath in the UK. BTW if there's open water, we're game!

@Percita, temps pushing 10 cel, wearing a dry suit, made for a very hot paddle!

@IShuttertothink, been wearing Keens as far back as I can remember, I have two pairs, one a size 9 for regular use and these in the pic an oversize 11 that fits when I wear a dry suit and/or bulky neoprene socks.

Excellent perspective and shot....definitely hardcore to be out there already. However, when you are doing what you love ...perhaps hardcore isn't an apt description.

Now that's what I'm talking about! Wow, I'm Jealous! My canoe is still in storage. I can't wait to get it out.

Great idea! Unfortunately, I can't wear KEENS kayaking. Though I have pretty small feet for a guy, my kayak has such a low deck height that all I can fit inside is a pair of FiveFingers. Though they've actually been great for paddling. Perhaps it's time to get a canoe! :)

Hahaha, Dean!!! You are truly incorrigible (in a good way, LOL)! Wonderful! When the little Crowe River is free enough of ice to canoe on, it's in full flood, overflowing the banks, and moving fast !! There are places where I can leave the river and canoe into the woods. You have to go upstream first, and it's hard work -- the trip back downstream is a real blast!

The inclusion of the right foot makes a nice foreground, I can imagine how cold it was, nice grab.

hmmm. the G10 + a waterproof case? Sounds like something to look closer at.
