Inspired by and dedicated to Jon Fobes, www.flickr.com/photos/jonfobes/ who does a far better job with macros than I. He said he was going to the Cleveland Botanical Gardens to shoot more butterflies today; in Seattle we have the Tropical Butterfly House inside the Pacific Science Center. That gave me the idea to go.
My hat's off to Jon and others who capture these beautiful insects. It's not easy to do. This one posed for me. The Nikon 5T close up lens provides a very narrow and shallow DOF, making focal depth difficult.
The Tropical Butterfly House maintains a high temperature and humidity; I had to wait quite some time before the lens acclimated and the fogging cleared. It's a magical place to spend some time in; there are beautiful tropical plants and scores of butterflies flitting about.
