petteys cemetery
1870

One acre under the sun with long views of the high wheat country. Essentially a family cemetery. There is no arboreal relief for miles in any direction. And more, you’ll be happy to know, chain-link fencing.

The cemeteries of Ione can be a touch exposed as is the countryside around them. In themselves they aren’t spectacular, but they lay honestly upon the land. The sky here gets lost in the distant horizon where gigantic puzzle pieces of browns and grays float on a sea of long hills. Everything is wheat.

Directions:

Jordan Grade Rd. departs Hwy. 74 to the north-northeast some three miles east of Ione. Take that. A couple miles up Jordan Grade meets Base Line Rd. (and Crum Rd.) and bends to the east into Base Line. Follow along that and the cemetery will shortly appear on the south side of the road.
