jewell cemetery
A little clearing in the forest, but not without its own trees. It’s a typical small pioneer cemetery with not a lot to look at, but still a pleasant enough stop, if you’re in the neighborhood. It does have the wooden “Let’s go gettum” “Uncle Bubby” Foster memorial, which, if you’re lucky, will still be standing when you visit. It’s by no means crowded but it still gets steady use and maintenance. You could do a lot worse than spend eternity here.

Directions:

Beneke Creek Rd. enters Hwy. 202 from the north at Jewell (where a spur goes to Hwy. 26). Take it. Take the first drive on the left, which comes up immediately. The drive forks and you should take the right hand drive up the hill to its terminus at the cemetery. There are no signs.
