saint francis xavier mission cemetery
This iconic mission cemetery from the early days of the Euro-American invasion of Cascadia is moderately interesting to see, but an important historical and cultural landmark. It’s not more than a couple acres in size and doesn’t hold a bevy of outrageous markers, but it does represent quite dignity and old tradition. If nothing else, it’s worth stopping by to see the Catholic Ladder from 1842. It’s not the kind of ladder you’d think. I’ve written at greater length about this cemetery at Dead Write, my humble (some say pitiful), blog.
