alford cemetery
The northern anchor and largest, at 3-4 acres, of a quartet of cemeteries strung out along Powerline (what a euphonious name) Rd. It’s open to the sky, mowed, but not used a lot these days; though it might be worth it to seek out Ray Drongesen’s (1917-1986) homemade marker cut out of steel plate: two horses pulling a cart labeled “Gentle Giants.” Were the horses gentle? Alford is also notable for having a large collection of white bronze markers, including a rare triple plus a Woodman of the World stump. I don’t know that I’ve encountered another white bronze WoW monument.

Directions:

Northwest corner of the junction of Hwy. 99E and Powerline Rd. about 2 1/2 miles northeast of Harrisburg.
