rising moon and star trails

Looking East, a waning crescent Moon and Venus rise into the night sky over the Kaitake and Pouakai Ranges, New Zealand. Mount Egmont / Taranaki is also photographed here. Faint zodiacal light in the sky's background forms a cloud that appears to emanate from the moon but in fact comes from the Sun which was due to rise. I'd miscalculated the rise of the moon and didn't expect it appear until later in the morning, but I think the overall effect enhances the photograph by adding depth to the Ranges.

This single frame 52 minute long-exposure photograph is straight out of the camera with only the lens vignette removed in post processing.
