Seemannias

Group of new hybrids; hover over photo to see labels, and view full size for best detail.

'Big Red' and 'Little Red' are sibling seedlings from the cross (S. nematanthodes x S. purpurascens) x S. nematanthodes 'Evita'. The S. purpurascens parent had dark foliage and these backcrosses to the other parent can be considered dark-leafed versions of S. nematanthodes. I'm hoping they inherit some of the hardiness of 'Evita', which is supposed to be hardy to zone 7b. 'Big Red' has larger leaves and flowers; 'Little Red' has smaller flowers and smaller but darker leaves.

'Red Prince' is an F1 hybrid of S. nematanthodes 'Evita' x S. purpurascens 'Purple Prince', similar to the hybrid parent of 'Big Red' and 'Little Red' but using different versions of the species. Sturdy stems and good, dark glossy foliage with an interesting texture.

'Dark Prince' is a complex hybrid involving the same two species, still being evaluated. It tends to grow a bit taller and the foliage is velvety and not as glossy.
