DAY 59/365: Spoke

One of my son's best friends was hanging out with us after school today. As we were loading up and getting ready to head for home, Casey grabbed his bike and began riding alongside us as we made our way to the parking lot.

As he wheeled along, I could hear that distinctive FWAP-FWAP-FWAP sound of a playing card stuck in the spokes of Casey's bicycle. I was immediately nostalgic and knew that I'd found my photo of the day.

It's always interesting to me when I see vestiges of former eras surface in my students' actions and words. Phrases that have been passed down to them from parents or grandparents. Kitschy traditions that link them to worlds gone by.

I love that Casey likes the papery percussive sounds of his pedaling, and I'm so glad I was in the right place at the right time today to discover it.

Today's DailyShoot assignment: Make a photograph illustrating a sound that catches your ear today.
