Champion Rock Bins

    Newer Older

Underneath the massive -- but slowly decaying -- Champion #4 rock house. This photo shows the path of the old rail spur which lead under the rock bins, where train cars could pick up copper-bearing rock to take to the mill.

This photo was taken as part of a tour on the Copper Country Explorer weekend, 2010.

      Thanks all!

@Marty Hogan: Yes, there is definitely something spooky to this. It may not be what you meant, but I always have a certain feeling of fear -- and anticipation -- when exploring ruins like this. You never know what you'll see, and you're often heading into (and onto) very uncertain support.

Great shot. Are we using a tripod now, or is this your (in)famous iron fist approach again? Details are tack sharp...and this is a solid capture. I love the use of vanishing point, contrast and of course B&W. I most like the fact that you exposed in favor of detail within the corridor in lieu of the bright area beyond...blowing out that area really creates a feeling that cannot be missed.

      Thanks for sharing.

@D. Travis North: Nothing but iron hands here! I'm glad that you like the "blown out" end -- the interior details are much more interesting, and I also like the "light at the end of the tunnel" effect. It also echoes the effect you see when leaving the dark, cool confines of a mine and coming back up "into the light".
