Magnetic Field Lines

    Newer Older

Active Aurora Borealis Taken At Lake LaBerge, Yukon Territory
Taken with Fujica ST605 35mm SLR and Zenitar 16mm lens. 12 seconds on NEW Fujifilm Natura 1600 film. This should have been a better shot, but, not having any retouching tool, I had to crop it about 30 percent, due to nasty black specks which appeared, after the rubber mirror bumper in the SLR crumbled from extended exposure to the minus forties cold that night. This has happened to me with several cameras, which is why I normally use Russian or East German (Kiev, Praktica) cameras, which have all metal mirror assemblies.
It just happened to me again two nights two nights ago with a Canon AV-1. After a relatively fruiless night of Aurora hunting, I sleepily left my gear in the vehicle overnight, at minus 45 .... After bringing it in and thawing it out, the viewfinder was entirely speckled with bits of sticky black rubber .... in that cold, the bumper material crystallizes and simply disintegrates.
NOTE, 01/29/08 ....Apologies to my regular viewers..... THIS IS AN OLD PHOTO FROM MY NORTHERN LIGHTS set...It accidentally materialized at the top of my Flickrstream while I was organizing the set, but as it had been little seen , I left it here.
