This is from the Toyokawa Inari Autumn Festival. The Autumn festival is called chochin matsuri, that is lantern festival. There are many many paper lanterns every where, includ ing one of the biggest paper lanterns in Japan.
One of the highlights of the festival is a parade around the area carrying the mikoshi (portable shrine). Any young girl who wants to dress up can enter the parade. Here’s one of them. I waved to grab her attention, she looked at me and started to give the peace sign and big smile that is common in Japan when any girl has a camera pointed at her, but then quickly composed herself and gave this slight smile instead.
