Field of Firewheels
This wildflower is known as "Indian Blanket", "Firewheel", and probably a few others that I don't know/can't think of.
However, it IS the state wildflower of Oklahoma (which is where I live), so it seemed most appropriate to give you a wide angle view of a field where it went on a LONG ways.
I saw the field Saturday while out doing photography with TR.iPod, but the light was too harsh (1:30 pm), so I decided to come back later. I left work today at 4:15 (early), so I decided to drive out and capture this. Well, I couldn't remember exactly where it was, I had thought about 20 minutes from the house. It turns out to be more like 30 minutes, and with today's gas prices, we just have to get this to Explore to make it worth while :)
Another hardship in photographing was the prickly pear cactus hidden among the flowers and grasses. Just this morning, I was using tweezers to remove glochids (hair like spines) from my foot, which pierced my shoe and socks to lodge in the top of my foot. Costly photo....come on....send it to Explore!!!!
