May Day assembly
A custom Nakashima inspired kitchen table, made from our now customary reclaimed white Ohioan barn oak. The table top is affixed by slide mount along two long, unglued, blind, dovetail joints. The glued up surface slabs can grow and shrink along these axes with seasonal thermal changes, without the stress that could be caused by spot connections with the steadfast and rigid base structure. Extensions mount in felt lined (also to cushion from thermal size change) and beeswaxed (to prevent binding) channels. First of a pair, dining table to follow.
