Winter Rose Hips

    Newer Older

In the depth of winter new life is waiting to burst forth in the spring! Rose hips in the Olbrich Botanical Gardens in Madison, WI. I used split toning in post-processing to give the white some subtle color (purple in shadow and yellow in highlight).

There's so little color left in winter, and here you've found some. Beautifully crisp. The adhered ice looks like little jewels.

I love this. I've been trying to shoot rose hips since early fall and haven't ever come up with anything I've liked - I am absolutely envious!

thanks everyone! I used our new Canon 100mm Macro to shoot this, and I'm amazed at how sharp this lens shoots (and quite happy!).

These hips were so bright that at first I thought theymight me dried tomatoes from far away!

As if life is free from the freezing winter, these berries tell good stories about the winter. I really like your composition here. To cover the stem demonstrates how it strived to beak the ice.
