Transit of Venus, June 5th 2012

An image of the sun showing the planet Venus in transit. This was taken near Austin, Texas at around 7pm on June 5th, 2012 and shows the last Venus transit of the 21st century (the next will be in 2117). This is obviously a heavily cropped image. It was shot with a 400mm lens on a crop sensor body. 12 stops of filtration were used to reduce the sun's glare enough to shoot the image. I was very careful to use LiveView when focusing and never looked through the viewfinder. As a result, my sight is still intact :-)

I would greatly appreciate your vote in the 2012 Photoblog Awards. Thanks!
