Angkor, Cambodia. Angkor Wat is undoubtedly the most famous of all the temples in ancient Angkor. It is believed to have been built as a funerary temple for King Suryavarman II (who reigned 1112-1152AD), and honors the Hindu god Vishnu. Surrounded by a large moat 1.5 km by 1.3 km, it towers some 55 meters high.
