Gossamer, field of spider web threads, sunset 2007-02-17_0004
This field of grass & clover was covered with spider web threads at this density. Numerous spiders, apparently millions(?), have emerged into activity after a few warmer days in February. The threads are all in the same direction determined by the prevailing wind.
It is also emergence in the sense of many small independent actions producing a result visible large scale.
Further discussion questions if the threads are parallel. I think the curve is the result of some minority variation in the direction of the threads caused by variations in wind direction & turbulence. The threads seen on the picture are those that reflect the light according to laws of reflection giving the impression of a much wider variation in direction than is real. A single thread catching the light shows up brilliantly while 100s of threads not catching the light are invisible so the odd out of alignment thread gives the impression the threads are less parallel than they really are.
