    Simon-

    I gotta bo be perfectly honest with you -- this photo actually looks the way I wanted it to look. I know how to do the things you suggest but, well, I chose not to. When you go out and do your version, you can do it the way you want to do it. Because in truth, what you are talking about are all subjective choices.

    And looking at your stream I see subjective choices that I would have made differently, too. But not very many, as I also see that you are pretty early in your lighting experience. So rather than fall into a Photo.net rut of just throwing out multiple critiques about how you would have done things differently, I would sincerely suggest that you might instead go out and do more things of your own. That is the difference between theoretical photos, and actual photos.

    Not trying to ding you here, just providing a little perspective.

    @stobits.
    true true .
    and re looking my posts i can see i might have been a tad to judging, it is a good picture(as i wrote) but nothing i would hang on my wall (no offence) we all have different taste. i have seen some of your other stuff and WOW... and if the picture is how you wanted.... then its 100% as it should be, Job done.
    maybe i got abit steamed up about seeing so many people just saying WOW!!!! OMG!! when i see so many things i (personally) wouldn't have done.
    about my "early in your lighting experience" yes its true, not that many years as a photographer. but, just made this account because i did a DIY on a single light with a home built ugly softbox, and wound mix my other channel with it. but never mind.

    most of your work I admire, but just saw the picture on you blog, and read that you had problems with taking the picture because of different things, and i thought.... well..... if there was a problem like this, i would have done this, and this. but lets just leave it at that.

    dear David, Thanks for your blog and all your amazing other pictures, them i really enjoy :)
    course those things, are really amazing, that you take your time to show us all, the way you are doing thing.
    Regards Simon

    Simon-

    All I am trying to say is that you might consider spending more of your engergy creating your own body of work rather than trying to explain that someone else really should have had the exact same thing that you had to eat for breakfast.

    If it makes you feel better, I put just as little stock in the OMG! WOW! comments as I do with a comment in which someone tells me that I am doing everything wrong.

    If you enjoy spending this much time pontificating other peoples' work and engaging in navel gazing, might I suggest Photo.net? They love that kind of stuff. Much better venue than my personal Flickr comments stream.

    Unless critiques are asked for on someones personal stream, do not give them. It's like a rude remark on someones clothing, you just don't do it.

    Fabulous dance photo! I found this while visiting your blog for the first time this morning. I had seen a reference to the blog in the Nikon D90 Digital Field Guide, and henceforth I will likely be a frequent visitor, since I have become very interested in the whole Strobist thing but know virtually nothing about it at this point.
