Painted Hall, Greenwich UK

    Newer Older

The Painted Hall in the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich is billed as the fanciest dining hall in Europe.

    No argument here.

Fantastic week in London, shooting for Lynda:TTP. Always feel like we are too busy with our pictures to truly appreciate what is in front of us. Guess I'll have to do that long-distance, after-the-fact.

Fantastic shot David. If you are in London or going to London again I'd strongly recommend checking out the Natural History Museum, it is free entry and they do allow photography, although they don't allow the use of tripod.

When I visited the NHM in London I took a photographic bean bag with me and placed it on one of the railings. I managed to get a bracketed set for a hdr image.

If you do go I would recommend going in either February or late September early October as there are less people around, and definitely take a photographic bean bag.

Those verticals are immaculate! Did you fix the perspective in post? Exif shows that you used a lens that doesn't seem to have shift/perspective control...

What a magnificent place. You've captured its grandeur so well.

      Majestic to say the least!

@brian -- Yep, fixed verticals in post. It is so easy to do (lens correction filter in even my old PS CS3) so I just take a lens a little wider than I need and plan to do it after.

Does help that the 14 is so rectilinear. If that superwide is wanged out, you can't fix that easily.

Wow, I know that that is not a very constructive comment but... Wow!

I am extremely impressed with the resolution and detail in this photograph, David. I always thought Fuji made a great point and shoot camera, and I've recommended them before, but I never thought they made a 'serious camera.' Then, you switched, and I started doing a little research. I'm impressed. I love the colors, particularly the gold. Very nice, and thank you for sharing.

I also see that it is still used as a dining hall, as well. Interesting.
