Lethocerus medius

    Newer Older

Giant water bug, attracted to light, Ruby AZ, c 65 mm long.
(And you thought it was safe to go back in the water?) Fortunately they are not aggressive, though they are said to have a painful bite.
Sometimes I get several of these at my moth light.

It looks a lot like Lathocerus medius.
Are you sure this is L. americanus ?

No I'm not sure. Is it the close spacing and shape of the eyes, or what cues are you using? I looked up a dorsal photo from same locality, and it shows convex hind tibia too - guess you may be correct.
