West Quantoxhead - St Etheldreda's Church in the snow - 23rd January 2013
We had heavy snow overnight on 22nd to 23rd January 2013 and our parish church of St Etheldreda again looked very photogenic in the snow when I went to collect our paper from our village store. When I got home I grabbed the camera and went back to take some pictures. I think that the church looked very special surrounded by heavily snow covered trees.
The current church was built to replace the medieval church, which was on the point of collapse, between 1854 and 1856. The church was built at the expense of Sir Peregrine Acland and Sir Alexander Fuller Acland-Hood at a cost of £16,000. The church was designed by John Norton in the early Decorated style.
