Stoodleigh - East Window - Christ in Majesty

The church of Saint Margaret is the parish church of Stoodleigh in Devon. Stoodleigh lies about four miles south west of the small town of Bampton.

There has been a church on the site since the twelfth century. The current church underwent a complete restoration and enlargement between 1879 and 1880, largely paid for by Thomas Carew Daniel of Stoodleigh Court; the architect was Henry Woodyer of Guildford.

The church has a number of stained glass windows dating between 1879 and 1910 which were all made by John Hardman and Co. of Birmingham. Although none of the windows are signed, several of the dedication plaques do carry the firm's name. This photograph shows a detail from the East window which was made in 1880. It shows the seated figure of Christ in Majesty flanked by an Alpha and an Omega, see Revelation i : 11.
