Haddon and Makepeace tomb, Heworth

Local rumour was the three children were buried under this stone four-poster bed in St Mary's churchyard, Heworth, because they died when the house caught fire as they were sleeping. Not true though, the bed design is just a simile for them being at rest. Unusual though and a Grade II starred listed building.

Built by the children's father Joseph Haddon, in 1721
