During my lunch break I noticed this young guy doing tricks with his skateboard near the Port of Subs downtown. So I crossed the street and crouched down and just waited, hoping he wouldn't mind, and would keep doing just what he'd been doing. And he did. I fired off shots as quickly as my camera would on auto-shoot, and caught several jumps. I've always wanted to get shots of a skateboarder in action, and I think it worked out beautifully!
I made a composite from two successive shots of the same jump. The frames were taken about 1/3 or 1/2 second apart.
I let him see a preview of one of the shots on the back of my camera, and gave him my card. I hope he gets to see how totally cool the photos came out. I'm really pleased with the results.
It was another step forward in overcoming my fearful shyness about approaching and photographing other people. Man, am I ever glad I stopped and took these shots.
