Ruin
A ruined village at the side of the oasis. Look at that decoration up near the top! Birds live in the holes.
It's not as sinister as the term 'ruin' might suggest, though: These buildings were mostly just left behind when the main road was constructed on the other side of the valley. With it came more efficient services, too, so people just upped and moved the village, leaving behind these buildings.*
Adobe construction like this needs constant maintenance, as once the outer layer of mud plaster gets washed away, the structural mud and rocks soon follow. A house like this can be completely destroyed in less than thirty years, so these buildings might only have been left behind within the last fifteen or twenty. It all looks like a disaster area, of course, but really it's just pragmatism.
Nevertheless, fascinating to explore and clamber though. I was too busy making 'oooooooh' noises to take many photographs, to be honest.
