Walk for Solar Power
The 328km walk from Port Augusta to Adelaide in support of a solar thermal power station to replace the coal-burning power stations at Port Augusta - instead of a gas-fired power station.

At present (October 2012) the older Playford Power Station is moth-balled and the newer Northern Power Station is intended to be used only for the period October to March of each year - to cover the high demand of air conditioning during the hotter days.

The coal reserves at Leigh Creek cannot last a lot longer and most people would like to see the coal-fired power stations perminantly closed down. Environmentalists, and the great majority of the people of Port Augusta, would like to see the coal-fired power stations replaced with renewables rather than gas.
