Trip to Sulawesi via KL and on to Makassar, Visited the ancient Pensi boat Harbour to see the still functioning fleet of sailing boats. Loading and working the port.
Afterwards on to the highlight of the trip Tana Toraja fantastic and beautiful mountain area with possibly the most amazing funeral rites on the planet. The deceased continues to live with the family and requires all the consideration that would be accorded any other member of the Family. This continues until the Funeral is prepared usually some months later. The funeral is an elaborate affair spread over several days. Gests come and go in relays everyone is feed and watered often with palm wine for a bamboo drinking cup. Each group lead in a procession behind the ceremonial warriors and the pick of the sacrificial Buffalo. Pigs are donated and slaughtered for the gests the remainder being passed out amongst the community. The Buffalo (38 on this occasion) are slaughtered on the last day and distributed around the village. The Dead are intered in chambers chiselled into rock with wooden effigies called Tau Tau to protect the deceased.

On Return from Toraja, Traveled to Bau Bau stayed at Hill House with a fantastic view. Traveled on the local basic ferry to Kaludupa to go on Hoga Island great location Coral reefs to a high standard loverly sunsets. Life is basic with limited electricity, Only a few hours good food and the loverly Wia to look after you. On departure we flew back from Wanci Wanci a great trip.
