Picket Frigate Prometheus

No relation to the upcoming movie of course. After doing so mostly Homeworld/Peter Elson inspired Microspace. I wanted to do an homage to Studio Nue and Kazutaka Miyatake in particular.

SJH Foto Haha, no way. I Have always been into Sci-Fi and animation. As long as it has a good story and is done pretty well. I remember watching the TV show and when the animated movie came out.

I used to have the toys. The animated movie was cool, but they killed most of the die-cast metal characters from 1984 to 1985 to introduce plastic 1986 models! I hated that! I still have the US & UK comic books

Having just built QF-45 following your instruction photos, I enjoyed building it so much that I really have to ask if you have plans of making more of such breakout photo sessions. This ship and Taiidan Gunship in particular are amazing, and I kind of remember reading in one of your comments that you considered posting breakout photos for Taiidan at least. I'm sure I'm not the only one hoping for this :)

Mradakov This has a halfway decent chance of getting construction photos. The Taiidan Gunship alas is no longer around. A bunch of stuff gets disassembled unfortunately. This will likely get some minor adjustments made before I abandon it completely.

dasnewten That would be much appreciated if you can do that! Trying to figure out what parts are used on QF-45 just by looking at the breakout photos, was a nice puzzle by itself.

Absolutely incredible work that you do!!!

I always wanted to build lego spaceships as a kid but could never find enough of the right pieces. What pieces do u use and where do u buy them?
  • dasnewten 3y

sonic_881 I don't have a list for this, but it has a lot of slopes, wedge pieces, and hinge bricks. A great place to get individual pieces outside of sets is www.bricklink.com

I feel bad for never commenting on this. I want more of this. I haven't touched my own collection of Lego in over two years, and seeing this just makes me try my hand again at some microscale.
  • dasnewten 3y

Adrian Florea I hope you find some time, I would love to see some new microscale. Maybe the ship with escorts called in to investigate the Ambassador wreckage?

dasnewten , Adrian Florea Ohhhh that sounds just great! Some kind of giant exploration/salvage ship!!

Every time I look at this.. so many amazing feelings. It's art.
  • dasnewten 3y

ѕроок Thanks Tim, are you on summer break now? It's nice to see you have had some time to build.

Simply stunning. Your design's proportions and details look better than most movie ships. Especially the movie Prometheus' crappy looking swing vector nozzle design. Your other Lego ships are also amazing. Great work! I liked your Rick Dias with Dom head model as well.

when I stumbled across your photostream "Peter Elson's" paintings came to mind. I had a couple of books when I was a kid in the 70's that had some of his paintings in. I recently managed to find those books second hand on the internet (one shipped from USA to UK) reliving my childhood :-)
  • dasnewten 2y

Nick Hancock Well Elson was a huge influence on me as a kid. Same as you I grew up with those books (Terran Trade Authority, I assume).
  • dasnewten 2y

N.T. Izumi Thanks! I really like your Pejite gunship as well as your other model work.
  • Nick Hancock 2y

Yep Terran Trade Authority books. They are great books, fantastic pictures in them. They influenced a lot of my art back then. Unfortunately I haven't drawn anything sci-fi since finishing high school in 1986.
