Assyrian Relief

This is one of five stone relief panels from the palace of Ashurnasirpal II, an Assyrian king who reigned from 883-859 BC. The palace, located in Kalhu (modern-day Nimrud, Iraq), was decorated with these panels on its lower levels. Traces of the original black, white, red and blue paint applied to them were still evident when they were discovered in the 1840s.
