Circus Maximus 3
The Circus site evolved from small sections of temporary wooden seating to a massive, fully enclosed stadum built of stone. After the 6th century, the Circus fell into disuse and was quarried for building materials. The site was flood-prone, and the original surface lies about 6 metres beneath the present level.
