Abbey Road Alternate Cover
This is a true rarity and a piece of history. This is perhaps one of the most unique pieces of Beatles memorabilia known.
There were six photos taken for the cover of Abbey Road. This is the final shot (number six -- see plate ID) and was hand autographed by the photographer. It's also proof that all of those stories about the cover meaning "Paul Was Dead" were rubbish. As you can see, there are different cars, different walking directions, etc. The VW bug isn't in all the photos either, and in some shots they're all wearing shoes. I've seen all six and my friend has the other five: she's the one who 'gave' me this for my birthday. This photograph technically remains the property of the photographer.
The cross-walk looks nothing like this now, and it's included in the list below. (If you search my Flickr stream there are other Abbey Road photos including me on the steps of the actual studio inside the gate. Most of them are listed below.)
I took it at an angle to reduce the glare from the photograph and help protect it. The photo has three watermarks: two visible and one invisible -- in addition there are other marks embedded into the photo to protect it from illicit uses.
If you view this at very large sizes, you can read the license plate on the vehicles, see the crowd standing in the sidewalk on the left just past the VW bug as well. While you can't see it here, you can actually tell the bus number on the original photo with a magnifying glass. In the cross-walk there's a metal utility plate and you can read the words on that as well. The original's colours are not nearly as washed out -- that's a function of my camera, the angle, the lighting, and my watermarking process.
This is the photograph. It's not a copy, scan, replica. It's the original and includes the plate number as evidence.
You do NOT have permission to take this photo or use it in any way whatsoever. You may LINK to it from a private, not for profit personal blog or website, but may not display the image itself on your site. If you do, your ISP will get a very unpleasant legal notice from me.
