Darlington Bank Top Station

Main platform of Darlington Bank Top Station, designed by W Bell and opened in July 1887 to replace the 1841 station, which in 1849 Queen Victoria said was unworthy of a town which 'gave birth to the railway system'.

Note the attractive platform clocks, old railway companies' shields of arms and Darlington, Durham and Newcastle coats of arms in the historic roof support arch spandrels.
