Smoke Above Clear Creek (EXPLORED)
The coastal range north of San Francisco is a series of Wilderness Areas: The Trinity Alps, the Marble Mountains, the Siskiyous and (in Oregon) the Kalmiopsis. This photo is from a trip to the Siskiyou Wilderness Area, near Happy Camp, famous for its Bigfoot sightings. A friend and I hiked twelve miles in 95 degree heat along the unimaginatively but accurately named Clear Creek. There were no people, and the water was an endless series of deep cold pools that required swimming in beneath a sky smoky from fires in southern Oregon. We saw no other people on the hike, and, alas, no Bigfoot!
